The material 316L, also known as S31603 or AISI 316L, is a corrosion-resistant stainless steel with a low carbon content of no more than 0.030%. It contains 16.0–18.0% chromium, 10.0–14.0% nickel, and 2.00–3.00% molybdenum, which gives it excellent corrosion resistance. Additionally, it contains less than 2.00% manganese and a maximum of 0.75% silicon. This composition makes it ideal for use in demanding environments, such as the chemical and pharma industry. 316L belongs to the austenitic class of stainless steels, which are known for their excellent toughness, weldability, grindability and non-magnetic properties.
